About us

Carpet (est. 2024) is a design studio crafting grounded brands and artists through bold, refined visuals.

s

We transform the familiar into the unexpected—creating identities, spaces, and experiences.

We take the familiar and unroll it into something strange, charged, and contemporary. Our name reflects our approach.

Rooted in craft, rich in texture, but always subverting expectation.

Daniel Lee

Daniel Lee is an emerging designer and illustrator specializing in brand identity, design systems, and presentation storytelling for institutions, corporations, and emerging brands. He holds an MFA in 2D Design from the Cranbrook Academy of Art and a BS in Digital Communication and Media from Skidmore College. His work has been recognized with Skidmore College’s Miller/Reed Prize in Design, and he has presented at TypeCon’s Type and Design Education Forum in Portland, Oregon.

His projects and exhibitions span Seoul, Chicago, Detroit, Portland, and Upstate New York, including collaborations with the Cranbrook Art Museum for its annual Graduate Degree Exhibition and with the Frank Lloyd Wright Smith House for their Selling to the Smiths exhibition, where he designed and directed brand identity and printed collateral.

After graduation with an MFA, Daniel co-founded CARPET Studio in Chicago with fellow designer Mike Michalski. Through CARPET, he aims to create expressive yet strategic visual systems that merge storytelling and structure across exhibitions, rebrands, and campaigns. Rooted in curiosity, collaboration, and precision, his objective is to build lasting design frameworks that clarify ideas, connect audiences, and contribute to the evolving landscape of contemporary design.
